Visit to Christ Church Ellerslie 2nd March 2018

18-Feb-2018

Our first event for 2018 is a visit to Christ Church, Ellerslie, which was dedicated on 22 December 1883. The 13 Christ Church stained and painted glass windows were a gift in 1884 from Alfred Bell, glassmaker to Queen Victoria, to his friend Albin Martin at Ellerslie. Clayton and Bell designed and made windows for many English cathedrals and churches worldwide, including those at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, King’s College Cambridge and Bath Abbey.

These windows are of national and international cultural heritage significance but now require repair and preservation work to ensure their survival for another 100 years. Our host will be Pamela Stone of Christ Church Ellerslie who will lead a talk and tour of the windows.
