136 GRAFTON ROAD VISIT WITH PARNELL HERITAGE

Remuera Heritage and Parnell Heritage had a joint visit to 136 Grafton Road to learn about the history, heritage restoration and recent work done to the building.  Robin Byron of Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga led a large group through the 3 storeys of the now Church of Scientology building and its surrounds. 136 Grafton Road was built as the Methodist Theological College in 1929 after it was moved from Dunholme in Remuera. The restoration has won a gold award from the Registered Master Builders Association for Heritage/Restoration.

NEW ZEALAND HERITAGE SURVEY

The Ministry for Culture and Heritage, with the support of the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage Rt. Hon Jacinda Ardern, is undertaking an assessment of New Zealand’s system for protecting heritage buildings. There is concern (which many of you share) that preventable and irreversible loss of heritage buildings is occurring in New Zealand.   Your views are sought on how heritage buildings are recognised and protected, and how our protection system may be improved. This may have a long term impact on heritage protection and is a real opportunity for you to have a say.

To receive a copy of the survey, email info@remueraheritage.org.nz and a copy will be forwarded to you.

Please complete this survey and send your responses to the Ministry for Culture and Heritage by 15 July 2018. You can:

(1)   Email the completed survey to: survey@mch.govt.nz or

(2)   Print and post the completed survey to: Heritage Survey, Ministry for Culture and Heritage, PO Box 5364, Wellington 6140
