Purewa Cemetery and Crematorium Open Day

When: Sunday 13 March 10am-4pm 

Where: Purewa Cemetery and Crematorium, 4 Parsons Road, Meadowbank

Highlights include: 

• a parade of classic/vintage hearses and cars. 

• guided tours of the famous and infamous buried at Purewa. 

• entertainment and children’s activities. 

 Bring a picnic or enjoy refreshments on site. 

Activities 

• See a collection of hearses from horse drawn to today’s latest View a variety of classic and vintage cars 

• Tour the chapels and crematorium, and talk to the people who work here 

• Find a resident with the help of the admin team (check out the keepsake jewellery and urns while you’re there) 

• Collect a kids’ activity sheet and complete it together 

Itinerary 

10am Open day starts with self-guided walks 

11am & 12.30pm ‘Famous and Infamous’ Tour Discover some of our most notable residents as we walk through the grounds. 60 minutes duration | Suitable for all ages Good footwear advised | Some stairs 

2pm Chapel and Crematorium Tour Take a walk through Purewa’s two chapels, and respectfully follow the caskets’ journey to their final destination. Take a fascinating look at what happens to implants. Our tour leader, Clifton Thomson, can answer any questions you may have. 

3pm Afternoon tea in the reception lounge Catered by Gattings. 

General information 

Water, basic snacks, and first aid available. 

Close supervision of children required in older parts of the cemetery. 

Leashed dogs are welcome on the cemetery tour 

Parking: Limited parking will be available for young families (under 2s) and mobility card holders at the Parsons Road entrance. All others please use the Fancourt Street entrance, or plan to park on the grass verge lining the St Johns Road entrance or surrounding streets.
