2014 Auckland Heritage Festival


Remuera Heritage has 2 events as part of the Auckland Heritage Festival 2014. This year's theme 'courage has many resting places' honours the centenary of the start of First World War and our brave men who went to the other side of the world to fight for 'King and Country'. Heritage walks, talks and tours, special First World War events and exhibitions make up more than 200 events across the Auckland region.

  • Herb Farrant, President of the New Zealand Military Historical Society, will talk on the impact of the outbreak of WW1on New Zealanders and their expectations, and will briefly cover the main events (Samoa, Gallipoli, Western Front & Sinai & Palestine) to the Legacy today.

Date: 6.30pm on Thursday 2 October 2014, at the Remuera Library, 429 Remuera Road.

  • Join us for a guided heritage walk around the 3 churches St Luke’s, St Michael’s and St Mark’s, with Jennie Hayman and Sue Jackson, to discover the architecture and history of the churches of St Luke, St Mark and St Michael and other buildings of interest in the area.

Date: Saturday 4 October (or Sunday 5 October if wet) 2.00 pm – 3.30 pm We will meet at St Luke’s Church, 130 Remuera Road, and return to end at our start location, with afternoon tea at St Luke’s. This event is held in partnership with St Luke’s Church and Community. Gold coin donation.
